Social compliance strategy

Client: A globally active textile merchant
Objective: To incorporate social compliance into the core processes in order to improve working conditions in the production plants over the long term.

1. Analysis

Systain analyzed the business processes and supplier structures of the client, along with the available supplier monitoring and training systems. The project plan was then developed in collaboration with internal stakeholders from Purchasing and Procurement. The planned new structures and processes were defined and specified within the context of the management system.

2. Implementation
Systain developed different procedures for social compliance management. For instance, the data processing function was enhanced, the supplier selection process for the social compliance programme was formalized, and information and training programmes were established. Together with the monitoring procedure and qualification programme, these procedures as well as their chronology and responsibilities were specified in a management manual and communicated throughout the company by using targeted information.

Result:
Any employee can find out about the processes and objectives of the social management programme at any time. A comprehensive manual specifies any obligatory rules, tasks, and duties for all involved employees. The textile merchant now has an integrated database that provides important criteria for selecting suppliers. In addition, it is possible to monitor precisely whether the objectives are met. The social management system that Systain helped to develop was verified

by the multi-stakeholder initiative "Social Accountability International" in 2007 and the assessment was very positive.
