1999 – the beginning
At the end of the '90s, EXPO 2000 in Hanover asked the former OTTO Versand to use the company's existing experience for helping with the ecological design of the world exhibition. The organization "Umwelt Management Partner – UMP" (Environmental Management Partner) was subsequently founded, but changed its name to "Systain Beratungsgesellschaft mbH" during the course of the project. It allowed the company to offer more than environmental consulting services in the future.
The name Systain – an acronym for "systematic solutions for sustainability" – says it all. By working in all important areas, from strategy consulting to labor practices in the supply chain, Systain enjoyed systematic growth.
2001 – the first showcase project
In the first few years of the new millennium, Systain played a key role in the development of the AVE Sector Model for social compliance in the supply chain. This monitoring and development system is based on partnership. It later served as the basis for developing the BSCI – the Business Social Compliance Initiative.
2003 – Systain expands
The office in Istanbul was opened in 2003, providing the company with a presence in this important consulting market. Step by step, offices opened in Hong Kong and Dhaka (Bangladesh) over the subsequent years. And the Systain Team grew continuously in proportion to the number of locations.
2007 – another showcase project
2007 saw Systain achieve groundbreaking results in a pioneering research project on the topic of textile carbon footprint, commissioned by the Federal Environment Office (UBA). This project forms the basis for other important projects aimed at reducing energy consumption and CO2 emissions along the production chain in a targeted manner.
The showcase projects mentioned here are just two examples of how Systain has performed pioneering work on a consistent basis. They also show why the company enjoys a leading market position in Germany. Today, Systain provides comprehensive advice to companies in German-speaking countries, supporting them with tailored services in all relevant production markets.
2011 – a new pioneering project is in the pipeline
